Parkinson’s experts to host event at Hailsham care home

Care UK, one of the UK’s leading independent providers of health and social care services, is inviting people in Hailsham and the surrounding areas to find out more about Parkinson’s disease, this Tuesday (8th April) from 10.30am to 1pm at its Bowes House care home on Battle Road.

Members of the public are invited to attend the free event which will feature talks from Parkinson’s UK, including a representative from the support and research charity’s regional team, a local volunteer and a specialist nurse. The speakers will be discussing practical tips for carers and relatives about how they can improve the everyday lives of people living with Parkinson’s. They will also provide information about any local support services and specialist Parkinson’s services in the Hailsham area.

According to Parkinson’s UK, someone in the UK is diagnosed with Parkinson's disease every hour, with over 120,000 people currently living with the condition. Most people diagnosed are over the age of 50, and 1 in every 500 will develop the condition in later life.

Home manager, Alison Barnes, explained why she is opening the doors to Bowes House for the Parkinson’s event. “At Bowes House, we understand that people caring for a loved one living with Parkinson’s find it really useful to have as much information as possible about the disease. At Care UK, we care for a number of residents living with the condition, so we want to make sure that families are equipped with the right information to support their loved ones.

“Visitors will have the opportunity to speak directly to the professionals, as well as the team at the care home, to find out more about how we can support the residents.”

Situated at 25 Battle Road, Bowes House is a 90-bedded care home which opened in June 2013.  The state-of-the-art home has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives.

Care UK runs 109 care homes and also provides care for thousands of people living in their own homes.  For further information on Bowes House including the Parkinson’s event, please call Alison Barnes on 01323 440188 or email alison.barnes@careuk.com.  For more general information, please go to www.careuk.com.
