Cairdean House, run by national care provider Care UK, secured £500 for a local charity as a result of the home being named a finalist in the ‘Care Homes for the Elderly’ category of the Pinders Healthcare Design Awards.
Helen Kinnaird, home manager at Cairdean House, explained why Pentland Community Centre was selected by the team at the care home to receive the funds. “Cairdean House is one of Edinburgh’s newest care homes, and since we first opened the doors here we have forged very close links with our neighbouring community centre.
“We have seen what an important role the centre plays in the local community, and just how many people rely on its services. All those involved in the centre do such a fantastic job and we were thrilled to be able to show our support with the £500 donation, which we were fortunate to secure as a result of being finalists in the Pinders Healthcare Design Awards.”
Cairdean House and Pentland Community Centre have joined forces for several projects, including events and initiatives to provide support for local people living with dementia. With the centre serving all generations in the community, its youth team has used the care home’s grounds for a gardening project, and the home’s residents have visited the Pentland Lunch Club at the centre which brings together elderly people in Edinburgh.
Carol Tuzun, Centre Manager of Pentland Community Centre, said: “We have thoroughly enjoyed working with the team at Cairdean House over the last year or so, and we have had a lot of fun getting to know the residents. The £500 donation is very gratefully received and will help us to continue to provide a wide range of services for the local community.”
Cairdean House is a 90-bedded care home from Care UK, situated on Redford Road in Colinton, Edinburgh. The purpose-built care home has been open for almost a year and provides nursing, residential and respite care for older people, including those who are living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
The home features its very own cinema, hairdressing salon and coffee shop, along with a retro-themed kitchen, reminiscence room, and safe, landscaped outdoor spaces.
Cairdean House was selected as a finalist in the ‘Care Homes for the Elderly’ category of the Pinders Healthcare Design Awards. The national awards programme recognises the very best care-related property developments and the difference design can make on the lives of those living in care homes.
Care UK runs 109 care homes and also provides care for thousands of people living in their own homes.
