Dementia expert to host seminar at East Grinstead care home

Care UK, one of the UK’s leading independent providers of health and social care services, is inviting people in East Grinstead and the surrounding areas to find out more about caring for people living with dementia, this Wednesday (9th April) from 12.00pm to 1.00pm at its Mill View care home in the town.

Mark Harrison, dementia specialist trainer at Care UK, will be joining the team at Mill View to share his knowledge and provide practical guidance for those caring for someone living with dementia. Mark will be looking at the realities of dementia and will be discussing coping mechanisms and tactics for dealing with the conditions associated behaviours.

Mark will also invite attendees to participate in practical exercises that simulate the effects of dementia to help them gain a deeper understanding of the condition. After the event, Mark will be on hand to answer any questions and there will be an opportunity for members of the public to meet the carers at Mill View.

Customer relationship manager, Mark Bennett, explained why he is opening the doors to Mill View for the dementia seminar. “At Care UK, we understand being armed with plenty of expert advice and information can make all the difference for those caring for loved ones living with dementia.  By hosting a seminar on the subject, we can ensure this information is communicated clearly and concisely, with visitors having the opportunity to speak directly to the professionals in this area as well as team members from the care home.”

Dementia affects 820,000 people in the UK and 25 million people have a close friend or family member living with the condition. 75% of Care UK’s care home residents are living with various stages of dementia and it offers extensive dementia training programs for all staff members to ensure residents receive the highest quality care.

Situated on Sunnyside Close, Mill View is a 70 bedded care home which opened in May 2012.  The state of the art home has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives.

Each of the four individual suites at Mill View has its own lounge, dining room and there is a choice of areas for relaxing.  Each of the bedrooms has an en-suite wet room, flat-screen television, adjustable profile bed and a 24-hour nurse call system, together with phone and internet connection points. Residents are also encouraged to bring their own items of furniture and treasured possessions, including much-loved pets such as a fish or a budgie.

Care UK runs 109 care homes and also provides care for thousands of people living in their own homes.  For further information on Mill View, including the Care Fee Planning Seminar, please call Mark Bennett on 01342 337 220 or email mark.bennett@careuk.com  For more general information, please go to www.careuk.com.
