In conjunction with Dementia UK’s national ‘Time for a Cuppa’ week, Grangewood Care Home acknowledged the event by inviting four delightful miniature ponies along to join in with the fun!
Time for a Cuppa week took place 1-8th March and Grangewood held their special day on Wednesday, 5th March. As well as the obligatory tea, coffee and cakes, there were arts and crafts for the residents and a raffle with prizes galore.
The four ponies - Mr P, Mr M, Wish and Blondie turned up in the morning ready to give a nuzzle and a cuddle to whoever was in need of one, along with their cup of tea.
Pony therapy is known to have a positive effect upon people suffering from poor mobility, poor co-ordination, those who are partially sighted or those suffering from depression. It has also been noted by healthcare professionals as a positive therapy to aid in the reminiscence and communications of dementia sufferers.
Katy, who runs K & L Ponies, spent the morning enabling every resident to enjoy some hands-on therapy - pictured is Gladys Singleton from Newport who thoroughly enjoyed her cuddle from Blondie!
The ponies were very well behaved and stayed until mid-day. A total of £126.12 was raised during the day for Dementia UK.
