On Friday 29th November, Armstrong House care home hosted a pyjama party with a slight twist. The residents and staff wore pyjamas and were joined by a therapy pony, whilst friends and families of the residents were also invited to make this a special day. Visitors made a donation in exchange for hot dogs and seeing the miniature pony, which helped to raise money for MacMillan cancer.
The miniature pony visited the home dressed in a Christmas outfit, whilst clip-clopping along the corridors and visiting residents all around the home. The pony visited the communal areas, after which it visited the residents who stayed in their rooms.
The pony was huge hit with the residents and had a very calming effect. Petting therapy is very interactive, uplifting and soothing, activity that has a positive impact on the residents and everyone involved.
Activities co-ordinator, Margaret Donaldson, who organised the visit said:
“This was a fabulous day, everyone had such a great time. The residents are still talking about the ponies, several weeks after the event. We will definitely be booking another visit next year”.
The money raised is currently in a collection tin, this will be added to with donations from Christmas events, after which the money will be presented to MacMillan Cancer.
