Hints and tips to help you communicate with loved ones affected by dementia will be included in a seminar being held at Heather View on Tuesday, September 24. Anybody interested in attending will be welcome at the free session.
It is being run by James Wilson, lecturer in mental health at Southampton University and is the second talk to be given by him at the home. The first, about Living with Dementia, was well received and this one will look more closely at how to stay healthy as a carer and how to better communicate with your loved one.
James will also discuss behaviours that can challenge and offer strategies to help you overcome them.
Refreshments will be provided and there will be the opportunity to put questions to James and share experiences with other carers.
Jason Cunnington, customer relations manager at Heather View, said James was an energetic, motivational speaker and his tips would help carers of those living with dementia.
“People try everything to keep their loved ones happy and it is exhausting for them. We see that when members of their family come here for respite care. There are things that can be done to make life easier so do come on September 24 to learn more.
“If you can’t come along then please get in touch because we will be organising other events to help people understand and live with dementia and we have our own specialist nurses who might be able to help with your queries.”
Jason can be contacted on 07436 802695 or by email at jason.cunnington@careuk.com.
