Stanmore home offers support to people caring for relatives with dementia

People caring for a loved one with dementia are being invited to a special information evening with dementia specialists at Care UK’s Woodland Hall care home in Stanmore on Tuesday 24th September.

Specialists from Care UK’s national dementia support team will be offering information, support and advice at the home in Clamp Hill between 4pm – 7pm and they will be joined by Age UK Harrow.

Kumaree Juggapah, the home’s manager, said: “We have lots of people coming in to see us who are struggling to find information on dementia and how they can best support their relative.

“Dementia alters the way people perceive the world and it can make them very frustrated and anxious. There are lots of ways to understand how a person is seeing the world and to adjust their environment to make them happy and content.

“We hope to pass on some very practical ideas throughout the evening as well as accessible information on the condition itself.”

There will also be an opportunity to have a one-to-one session with Rose Elliott, who works with care home teams, residents and families across the south to find unique solutions that increase wellbeing in people living with dementia.

Rose has more than 20 years of experience in working with older people with mental health issues and in researching dementia at Stirling University. Kumaree said: “Rose has a wonderful commitment to creating effective and workable strategies for people and carers and I would recommend that anyone caring for a loved one with dementia books a one-to-one session with her.”

Anyone wishing to attend the free event or book a one-to-one session with Rose should email julie.dennis@careuk.com or telephone 020 3131 2576.
