Belly dancing and Chelmsford Silver Band proved big hits at our summer fete on Saturday, when residents, their families and friends all enjoyed all the fun of a traditional summer fete with some extra treats.
The weather was kind to us, luckily, and all our efforts, both from the team and from the residents, paid off handsomely. We combined lots of traditional activities, including rolling the penny, tombolas, bric-a-brac, stalls and face painting with more unusual entertainment, such as music provided by the Chelmsford Silver Band, the belly dancing display, as well as singing provided by some of our residents’ favourite regular entertainers. There was also a stall promoting the work of the Mid Essex Alzheimer’s Society.
Our manager Juliana Miles said: “It was really lovely to see so many people enjoying the afternoon. Especially three generations of family spending happy times together. The team worked really hard to make sure it was a success, and we even enjoyed the chance to put Sam, one of the team, into the stocks!” Visitors enjoyed home-baked cakes and refreshments throughout the afternoon, including hot dogs.
Juliana said: “Manor Lodge has many active links with the local community and we achieved what we really wanted - a truly fun, community event. We were so glad that some of our neighbours from the sheltered housing development could join us.”
