In Islington we were able to make the first ever national open day extra special with the help of the borough’s outgoing Mayor, Councillor Jilani Chowdhury.
On Friday June 21, Care UK’s homes across the country joined together in opening their doors for the first National Care Home Open Day.
At the Muriel Street Resources Centre, Mayor Chowdhury came along to a fun-packed day which included karaoke, a dance show and guest appearances from Andrew and Suzie from Music in Hospital.
Manager Abimbola Awotayo said: “It was a thoroughly enjoyable day and I think the community was able to see what a great facility it has in our resource centre.”
At Lennox House the Mayor was amongst the visitors who joined our garden party. Manager, Florence Clarke, said: “It was a wonderful day and visitors had the opportunity to view some of the artwork produced by residents.
“As the day is about celebrating the best of residential care we also used the opportunity to make our long-service presentations to our dedicated team.”
As well as showing visitors around our homes we also gave away copies of the brand new book As Easy As ABC: Care UK’s Top 100 Hints and Tips for Activity Based Care. If you would like to learn more about ABC and how it can improve older people’s independence and wellbeing you can download it from www.careuk.com.
