On Friday June 21, Care UK’s homes joined hundreds of others around the country opening their doors for the first National Care Home Open Day, and in Greater London we took the opportunity to join in the celebrations.
Culture and fashion from around the world came to Forrester Court, in Paddington, where visitors enjoyed different countries’ songs, music and dance during the day. The home worked with Macmillan and Cancer Research for the day, and visitors could see displays of their work alongside our own displays in the home.
Manager Sue Ann Jones said: “Because our residents come from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, we wanted to celebrate as widely as possible, and it was a great success. We are always glad to welcome visitors and we are happy to give advice and support to those who have a loved one with dementia.”
And tea in the garden proved a hit at Elmstead House, in Hendon, with visitors making the most of the weather.
As well as showing visitors around our homes we also gave away copies of the brand new book As Easy As ABC: Care UK’s Top 100 Hints and Tips for Activity Based Care. If you would like to learn more about ABC and how it can improve older people’s independence and wellbeing you can download it from www.careuk.com.
