On Friday June 21, Care UK’s homes joined hundreds of others around the country opening their doors for the first National Care Home Open Day, and in Essex we took the opportunity to join in the celebrations.
At Silversprings, in Tenpenny Hill, near Colchester, visitors joined in with art and craft activities from mid-morning until the evening. There was also old-time entertainment and a harpist playing during the day.
Manager Karen Stokeld said: “Our barbecue and buffet were both very popular, and the home was full of music for the day too. We were so pleased to welcome people in to see our work.”
The barbecue was also fired up at Tall Trees care home in Oaks Place, Mile End Road, and we welcomed the Queen Boudicca Primary School Choir, along with garden games and fun. Katherine Foley, manager, said: “Our kitchen team did us proud, and we all had a great day.”
Magic was certainly in the air at Manor Lodge, in Manor Road, Chelmsford, where we all marvelled at our illusionist for the day. Manager Juliana Miles said: “Our carers and activities specialist added their own touch of magic to the day, talking to our guests and showing them round the home – it was a lovely occasion.”
As well as showing visitors around we also gave away copies of the brand new bookAs Easy As ABC: Care UK’s Top 100 Hints and Tips for Activity Based Care. You can download your copy from www.careuk.com.
