On Friday June 21, Care UK’s homes joined hundreds of others around the country opening their doors for the first National Care Home Open Day and here, in Orpington, we were not about to be left out!
The day was to be a celebration of all that is great about residential care.
Manager Rachael Adams said: “We focus on helping residents to maintain their hobbies and interests so that they feel that their lives are still their own. We have scheduled weekly activities, including arts and crafts, pamper days, gardening, reminiscence sessions, sing-a-longs and quizzes and we thought that it would be a good idea to give the visitors a taste of what we do.
“So, as well as giving people tours around, we also laid on some or our residents’ favourite activities in the garden, including some of our giant games that went down well with visitors young and old.”
As well as showing visitors around our home we also gave away copies of the brand new book As Easy As ABC: Care UK’s Top 100 Hints and Tips for Activity Based Care. If you would like to learn more about ABC and how it can improve older people’s independence and wellbeing you can download it from www.careuk.com.
