A team of 14 people who work at Mill View care home are taking on a 5km run to raise money for a charity that is dear to their hearts.
At 7.30pm on Wednesday 19th June the team will be together on the starting line of this year’s Race for Life at Tilgate Park, in Crawley, to raise funds and awareness for Cancer Research UK.
Carer Hayleigh Bowman said: “Everyone is very excited and very positive about the challenge. Almost everyone running has had their lives touched, at some point or in some way, by the disease.
“Everyone in the home has been very supportive and we have been sponsored by residents, their friends and relatives and by colleagues. Our home opened a year ago and there is such a wonderful feeling of friendship and family we thought this would be a great way to mark the occasion.”
Rosemarie Gray, who manages the home in Dunnings Road, said: “I could not be prouder of my team. Everyone taking part has used their spare time to train for the 5km race. Some will walk it, others will run, but I know they will put their hearts and souls into it as they do everything they do.”
The team, who are made up of carers, administrators, hostesses and the kitchen team, will be able to apply to Care UK for match funding after the event as part of the health and social care provider’s commitment to supporting its teams’ valuable social and fundraising activities.
