Day of celebration planned at new care home in Hailsham

Magicians, a harpist and a jazz musician will be taking part in a day of celebration at the new Bowes House care home in Hailsham next month to mark its opening.

There will be face-painting too and lots of refreshments, and townspeople, as well as others who would like to look around the luxury accommodation, are invited to go along on Saturday, June 8, between 10.30am and 4pm.

The Mayor of Hailsham will officially open the home, which incorporates parts of an old brewery which later became a rubber factory, and there will be chance to meet staff.
Fifty-five new jobs have already been created in Hailsham through the opening of the Care UK home and that number is expected to more than double as residents settle in.

There are 90 beds for older people seeking the highest standards of personalised nursing, residential, and respite care and an experienced team will also provide specialist support for those living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.

Manager Alison Barnes is delighted both with the calibre of staff recruited and with the quality of accommodation which is split into four suites each with its own lounge, dining room, TV rooms and quiet areas. Residents’ rooms are spacious and light.

She said: “Our staff are highly skilled and 90 per cent are from Hailsham itself. It is very exciting to see them in their uniforms and taking part in a month’s training before we open. We are ready to welcome residents.”

There is a Hailsham theme throughout Bowes House. Children from nearby schools have named the suites Weald, Meadow, Barley and Aylsham and there are pictures from the town’s past adorning the walls.

Hailsham’s celebrities are remembered too. An activities kitchen, decorated retro-style, pays tribute to Fanny Craddock while one of the lounges is furnished in rich colours inspired by Cardinal Wolsey.
