Care UK’s Heather View care home in Crowborough and national charity Age UK are working together to provide a foot clinic service for local people aged over 50.
The foot clinic will be available at the home, in Beacon Road, on Wednesdays throughout the year and the sessions, organised by Age UK, will be run by a team of friendly, professional foot care workers, managed by a qualified podiatrist.
The competitively priced service includes toenail cutting, footwear advice and information on how to maintain healthy feet and, for those who require more specialist care, the team will be able to refer people onto an associate podiatrist within the service.
Heather View Manager Katie Brewster said: “Our residents will be joining the visitors during the sessions as they know the value of having healthy feet. As we get older it becomes more important to keep your feet in good shape.
“Every year, up to per cent of people aged 65 and over will have a fall and that figure rises to 50 per cent in people aged over 80. Many of these falls can be prevented with simple foot care and footwear advice as can most common foot problems associated with growing older.
“We are delighted that Age UK is offering this valuable service and we are very pleased to be able to invite people into our home to use it.”
Anyone wishing to use the service should contact Nonie Harries on: 01273 476704 or email: nonie.harries@ageukeastsussex.org.uk.
