Paralympian Stephen Miller to open free family fun day

Residents at Care UK’s Ponteland Manor will be joined by gold-medal winning paralympian Stephen Miller when they throw open the doors and invite visitors to join them for a day of egg-cellent fun and fundraising for MacMillan Cancer Support.

Stephen, who won gold medals at the Atlanta, Sydney and Athens Paralympic Games and went on to captain the Paralympics GB Athletics team at the London 2012 games, will be officially opening the family fun day at the home in Thorne Hill Road, Ponteland, on Saturday March 30.

Home Manager Jeanette Leadbitter promises there will be something for all the family.

She said: “My team, the residents and their families are helping to create lots of stalls and activities.

“As well as an Easter Egg hunt in our beautiful gardens, we will also have egg decorating, an egg and spoon race, a cake stall and a tombola and raffle stall.”

Visitors can also treat themselves to a manicure at the nail painting stall and indulge their sweet tooth at the old fashioned sweetshop stall.

Jeanette said: “There will also be a guess the balloon contest and entertainment from a hurdy-gurdy player and ukulele group Silvers Stars. We have also created a Remembrance Tree to allow people to write a note on a leaf commemorating a loved one.

“Cancer is a disease that has affected the lives of many of our team, residents and loved ones, so we wanted to create a fun and happy day for the community that would also help to support a truly worthwhile charity.”

Stephen said: “I have supported the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support and I am very much looking forward to opening the Ponteland Manor Family Day on their behalf - events like this are so important to the amazing work that Macmillan does in the community”

Entry to the fun day, which will run from 10am until 2pm, will be free and all funds raised will be donated to MacMillan Cancer Support.
