Exercise, pamper sessions and a party with family and friends are how residents at Care UK’s Grangewood residential care home have decided to celebrate a campaign to promote dignity in care.
National Dignity Action Day, held on Friday 1st February, aims to ensure people in care are treated as individuals and given choice and control.
Home Manager Susan Hodgson said: “We wanted to raise awareness of the importance of dignity in care, but we also wanted to give residents an extra-special day, so we asked what they would like to do and we have planned the day around that, because real choice plays a large part in maintaining an individual’s dignity.”
The residents will spend the morning taking part in a ‘music for health’ session. Susan said: “We will be joined by some of our friends from the local community, who run the seated exercise session that involve lots of instruments and activities.”
Following a special buffet lunch, prepared by the home’s kitchen team, there will be an indulgent pamper session, organised by the home’s activities team. Susan said: “We have a hairdresser coming in and residents will also be able to have hand massages and manicures.
“We hope the residents will be joined by as many of their friends and family as possible to help us celebrate.”
