The Ventress Hall team has been at it again - raising funds for a charity committed to combating elder abuse and braving thunderstorm, driving rain and a five-mile hike to do it.
Social Activities Coordinator Sarah Waggitt, said: “We often raise money for Action on Elder Abuse and World Elder Abuse Awareness Day seemed to be the perfect time to try a new fundraising activity.”
The team drove out to the country and walked five miles around the area. Sarah said: “When I arrived wearing wellies and the sun was shining, I thought I’d done the wrong thing. But it didn’t take long for the clouds to turn black, the rain to lash down and the thunder and lightning to start.”
The team’s efforts were supported by the residents and their relatives and our walkers have made posters to put around our home showing the route, time taken and amount raised.
Sarah said that everyone has been very impressed by their efforts and particularly the efforts of four-year-old Harry Guy, the son of Senior Carer Tanya Betteridge, who walked the five miles in his wellies. Sarah said: “He had a great time and loved getting muddy.”
Also taking part were Sandie Flinn, who organised the walk with Sarah, and Helen Baker. The team’s efforts raised £164, half of which will go to the charity while the other half will be to organise outings for residents.
