The star of our Jubilee celebrations at Ventress Hall was ‘Her Majesty The Queen’ herself, who sat in our reception area politely sipping her cup of tea.
The royal cut out was hugely popular with residents and their and she brought many smiles to people’s faces..
A few weeks before the celebrations, residents began making jubilee decorations in our arts and crafts classes including patriotic flags, hanging decorations and union jack paper chains.
We put bunting outside and planted our flower pots, tubs and hanging baskets with an assortment of red, white and blue flowers.
Residents watched the Jubilee Celebrations on the television before sitting down to tea with their relatives. All four dining rooms had been set out like an old fashioned street party, the tables were set in rows with union jack table cloths, flags and party poppers and streamers.
Our kitchen staff made a lovely buffet of cupcakes in red, white and blue, laid out like the union jack and an assortment of savouries. Old fashioned sweets were then handed out which jogged a few memories, especially the sarsaparilla tablets.
Pete the balloon man came in and made hats and flowers visiting all the floors to ensure no one was left out.
Dacre and Barry, our assistant chefs had baked a lovely cake with union jack icing which was eaten after a toast to The Queen.
