Royal scarecrows star in The Terrace jubilee celebrations

The Terrace celebrated the Queen’s jubilee in style with a street party and special scarecrows of the royal family.

The residents helped to make them and we had help with the outfits, some of which came from the local Oxfam shop. Also our manager Sue McLaughlin supplied us with one of her husband’s dinner suits. The local vicar gave us one of the hats, and our local taxi driver who takes the residents out on trips supplied us with straw and some of the clothes.

Celebrations also included a visit by local school children who sang a selection of old favourites for the residents and were rewarded with ice cream and sweets for their efforts.

The children also delighted residents by making us a very large quilt, made from old clothes, uniforms and party dresses which we are going to have framed and put on our lounge wall.

To say thank you the residents made red, white and blue pom pom “critters” in the jubilee colours which they gave to the young visitors.

Our kitchen staff  pulled out all the stops for our street party, making all the traditional party fayre and the residents’ favourite singer Freddie Briggs added a musical note to the celebrations.
