Residents at Cheviot Court are busy making bunting, flags and cakes to mark the Queen’s Jubilee on Friday 1st June.
The residents and team at the residential home in Horsley Hill Square will be joined by friends and relatives for a day of activities and fun that will include a buffet, entertainers and lots of cake made by the residents.
Activities Coordinator James Moore said: “Reminiscing is a fun pastime for everyone but, as you get older, it a really helpful way to maintain memory, connections and language skills.
“As our residents are busy getting ready and making decorations and cakes, they are talking about parties, celebrations and jubilees from their past and, as many of our residents were born and bred in the area, they have a lot of collective memories to share.”
One of the most popular activities at Cheviot Court is baking and the home recently purchased a cupcake cooker so that everyone could join in the fun. James said: “We work hard to ensure people can keep up their hobbies and interests when they join us. This keeps people happy, active and independent and, in the case of the baking club, keeps us supplied with delicious cakes and bread!”
