Residents and carers at Appleby House in Epsom have been working together to investigate local history and to create a display of the past in the borough.
Activities Coordinator Bernie Lally was visiting the library at Bourne Hall to get some books for residents when she noticed that the museum and library had a family history unit. The residents were excited about carrying out investigations and they were delighted when the Bourne Hall team came for a visit to help them.
Bernie said: “Most of our residents were born in the area. The team visited the home twice to talk to residents and then they went back and found information and photographs of the places they had lived, worked and went to school and the residents used this to make a wonderful display.
Everyone was so excited about the project that residents decided to visit the museum. Bernie said: “They had a great time. I think they learnt a lot and the museum staff gained some insights into how the area had changed over the last 80 years.
'Other visitors to the museum also enjoyed the residents’ outing. They listened to their memories and enjoyed chatting to them and of course the residents loved talking to them.
