Excellent food hygiene has won us an award from South Tyneside Council, presented to Louise Damms, our manager, on January 30th by Deputy Mayoress Councillow Eileen Leask.
Our high standards meant that we received a 5 star rating, under the Food Standard Agency’s code of practice, when we were visited by the council’s inspectors.
All businesses and care homes serving food are thoroughly inspected by the council’s environmental health service as part of their programmed food inspections.
Following an inspection, the officer then scores the premises for a range of factors such as food hygiene, structural standards including cleanliness, and confidence in management. The star rating is then advertised on the council’s website and on each establishment’s window and a handful of the highest- rated establishments are given a special award by the council.
Louise said: “The team has worked hard to ensure that our hygiene standards are very high and we are all delighted with the award. Our chef, Bob Hambling, is a stickler for hygiene, as well as making exceptionally good food. The residents and staff are particularly fond of his cakes and breads, but our waistlines aren’t!”
“Working with older people, it is crucial to maintain consistently high standards of both care and also hygiene and this confirms that we are delivering at that high standard for our residents.”
