Station House nursing home raises funds for dementia charity

Residents at Care UK’s Station House are opening their home to the public to raise money for Dementia UK as part of Time for a Cuppa day, on Monday 27th February between 1-3pm.

Time for a Cuppa is about bringing people together across the country to hold an event at home, in the workplace or in the community to help raise much-needed funds to support the work of Dementia UK, a charity dedicated to improving life for people with dementia.

Sarah Evans, who manages the home in Victoria Avenue, said: “Our kitchen team, staff and residents will be making cakes to sell on the day. Residents particularly enjoy making cupcakes with lots of different coloured icings and decorations. Some of their creations are very pretty and they are all very tasty!”

The cakes will be sold to eat at the event with a cuppa or to take home and enjoy. Guests, including local doctors and members of the council and primary care trust, have been invited to the event, that runs between 1pm and 3pm, as well as residents’ relatives and friends.

Sarah said: “We invited people whose relatives used to be residents at Station House but have now passed on. People get so used to coming here, and they often make friends with other residents and their relatives, so we like to offer them the opportunity to come along. Many of them even volunteer in the home and some help to run our clubs and activities.”

Station House provides nursing and residential care for older people, some of whom have Alzheimer’s Disease and other related illnesses.
