Artistic resident’s runners up in story competition

Creative residents at Appleby House Care Home were runners up in a national competition to mark World Book Day.

Their entry in the Care UK short story competition had an “every picture tells a story” theme and involved a series of illustrations by residents which were accompanied by captions to explain the background to them.

Manager Jeni Rushden said:  We are delighted to have won a prize. About 20 residents took part and they all drew or painted stories from their lives. For example one of our residents had been in the navy so he drew ships another drew where they were born.

“We will put the £125 prize money towards a computer for our residents.”

The pictures are now on show in the home in a special exhibition.

Jeni added: “ Bernadette Lally our activities organiser worked hard on the entry and she really is bringing out the best in our residents.”
