The heat is rising as our baking group have their first meeting

Residents were weighing, scooping and stirring this week as our baking group met for the first time and everyone in the home was delighted with the delicious results.

Activities Co-ordinator Stephanie Campbell said: “Many of our residents have baked all their lives and are very good at it. We encourage lots of groups within the home because your life and interests don’t end when you move into residential care or you develop dementia. With a little bit of help, there is no reason why people can’t carry on doing the things they love.

“Baking also helps residents to keep up their skills and confidence and food is a powerful trigger of memories, which is very helpful for people with conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease.”

The group of 10 residents made fairy cakes and chocolate crunchies which were enjoyed by everyone else in the home at tea time.

Stephanie Campbell: “Our Blaydon ladies have proved their reputation for baking and now we are going to buy some more equipment as the group have decided to bake birthday cakes for all of their fellow residents.”
