Father Christmas will be on hand to welcome visitors to Care UK’s Tor Na Dee care home Milltimber, on Saturday December 17th as the doors open for the home’s annual Christmas fete, which is open to all between 2-4pm.
As well as Santa and his little helpers, there will be lots of stalls, mince pies, mulled wine and entertainment at the North Deeside Road home.
Manager Maureen Barrett said: “Our residents love open days and they particularly like seeing the children with Santa. It brings back lots of memories, gets them chatting about Christmases past and reminds them of how they used to organise Christmas in their own home. They have a great time decorating the home and the tree, ready for our visitors.”
The residents have also been busy making items for sale on the craft stall. Activities Co-ordinator Gosia Tuszkiewicz said: “The residents have been helping me and Lottie, the other co-ordinator, make and wrap bars of soap. The soaps smell beautiful and are made of natural ingredients.
”One of our residents used to run a bakery. The lady’s family, who now run the bakery, are very generously providing the cakes and pastries for our cake stall.”
The fete starts more than a week of Christmas celebrations and activities. On Sunday 18th December there will be an ecumenical church service in the home with five different churches represented.
On Wednesday 21st December, children from Milltimbers Primary School will be visiting the home to sing some of the residents’ favourite carols. Maureen said: “The residents love watching the children and joining in with the carols and the children enjoy chatting and hearing stories about when the residents were children.”
On Saturday 31st December, staff, relatives and their families will be celebrating Hogmanay. As well as a party, there will be a concert of traditional songs performed by Jack Mearns.
Maureen said: “Hogmanay is always a special occasion. People have their own ways of celebrating and family traditions. As this is our residents’ home, we do everything we can to ensure that they, their friends and their family can celebrate and have fun in their own special way.”
