Station House Wins Award for its Shining Stars

The staff at Station House care home in Crewe, have received a national care givers award after being nominated by a family whose relative died at the home.

The Shining Star Awards were created to give relatives and visitors to residents of Care’s UK 59 residential homes and day centres the chance to say well done to those who care for their loved ones.

The team of 100 staff at the Victoria Avenue home received their award from Tony Weedon, Director of Operations for Care UK’s residential services, after a panel of care experts were moved by a family’s description of how the team had cared for their loved one in his final days and made their difficult time bearable.

The home’s Deputy Manager Sarah Evans said: ”It is a privilege to look after someone in their last days and to try and make their passing as painless as possible for the family.

“It is deeply touching that a family nominated us. We are rated as excellent by the Care Quality Commission but it means so much to us to get this type of endorsement from a family.”

The home, as well as, providing palliative and respite care, also has rooms for 69 residents and a specialist dementia unit.

Sarah said: “We have an exceptional team here. They don’t treat their job like coming to work, they treat it as if they were coming into the resident’s home and that makes a real difference.“

But the caring does not stop at Crewe. Moved by images from Haiti, the staff have organised a series of events including a coffee morning to raise money for the earthquake appeal. To date they have raised £212.00.
