Back to the future! Cardiff care home welcomes pupils to bury time capsule

Highlighted home news

A new care home in Cardiff has teamed up with a local school for a very important project.

Team members at Care UK’s Llys Herbert, on Ty-Draw Road, were joined by pupils from Llysfaen Primary School to bury a time capsule in celebration of the new home, which opened its doors in July.

The children filled the time capsule with contents to reflect their favourite memories at school, which included a tie, a collage of the school logo and a photo of someone they care about.

The team at Llys Herbert also added some photos of current team members so that future residents and team members can look back on how the home may change in years to come.

The time capsule has been buried in the care home’s gardens and is not planned to be re-opened for at least 50 years.

Carly Cronin, Year 4 Class Teacher at Llysfaen Primary School, said: “Working on the time capsule with the team at Llys Herbert has been a great project for our pupils and they were all keen to ensure their favourite parts of school life were included. It’s been a brilliant opportunity for the children and we hope this is the start of a budding friendship between future residents too.”

Therisa Galazka, Home Manager at Llys Herbert, added: “It was wonderful to welcome the pupils from Llysfaen Primary School to Llys Herbert.

“We’re excited to build new intergenerational relationships in the local community and we were delighted when the children agreed to help with our time capsule. Having input from the younger generation for this project was really important to us – it’s been lovely to work with the local youngsters and find out more about their favourite parts of school life.

“I’d like to extend a big thank you to Llysfaen Primary School for their help and look forward to continuing to build on our relationship – especially as we’re starting to welcome residents into the home!”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, the new care home opened its doors in July. The spacious home allows for plenty of space for hobby and leisure activities, and has its own bar, hair and beauty salon, cinema and coffee shop.
