Carley Hunt

General Manager

Carley Hunt

I started my career in care in 2011 and have worked my way up to General Manager.

Overseeing the smooth running of Llys Cyncoed keeps me busy, and you definitely need to multitask and be flexible.

One of my favourite parts of the day is the time I spend with residents. I always make sure to join in the daily anagrams challenge. As well as testing my word-puzzle skills, interacting with residents helps me better understand the support they need.

I have a level five diploma in leadership for health and social care services, and learning and development is hugely important to me. In particular, I am keen to nurture colleagues who want to progress their careers. Supporting achievements means we’re always striving to do our best for each other and residents.

As a mum of two, I am equally busy outside of work. I enjoy fun activities with my children and when I can, take walks along the beach and in forests.

Customer Relations Manager

In my role I meet with prospective residents and their families to understand their unique circumstances so I can help them with their journey of finding the right care. Together we then create a package of care which is tailored to every resident as an individual, and I provide support to both the resident and their families with the move.  I have been in this role for the past 10 years and have had the pleasure of meeting so many families and seeing the positive outcomes of a move to our care home.

In my spare time I enjoy taking my chocolate Labrador for walks – she can’t do as much any longer as she has arthritis. I love going to the theatre and eating out with friends and family. I would say that seeing the residents joining in with the wide range of activities and the daily social at 3pm are the highlights of my day.

Reminiscence Coordinator

As Reminiscence Coordinator I am privileged to be able to assist people living with dementia on a daily basis . I have been working in the reminiscence neighbourhood at Llys Cyncoed for six years, and was part of the Cardiff team that won the Best Dementia Team at the Dementia Awards in 2014. It is great to work with such a loving team and really strive to provide excellent person-centred care and really promote the ethos of seeing the person not the dementia. As a team we really believe that we are able to make a difference and provide a high quality of life for all.

Maintenance

As maintenance coordinator, my role is to make sure residents are safe and comfortable.

I joined Llys Cyncoed looking for a new challenge. I can honestly say being part of this team is a career highlight. I feel privileged to work with colleagues who are passionate and dedicated to supporting residents lead happy and dignified lives.

Before joining the Llys Cyncoed team, I was a maintenance manager. My experience has given me a broad range of skills and expertise, particularly when it comes to health and safety. This includes fire training, working at height, Legionella awareness and control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH) regulations.

I love that every day brings a new task. This gives me the chance to put my knowledge, and experience into practice.

In my free time, I enjoy being with my family and going to gigs.
