Chelmsford care home resident celebrates a century of staying active

Move over, superfoods: a 105-year-old Chelmsford care home resident has revealed that her secret to living a long and happy life is practicing yoga.

Daisy Taylor, who lives at Care UK’s Manor Lodge on Manor Road, celebrated her milestone birthday on 18th November with family, along with her fellow residents and Manor Lodge team members.

Born on 18th November 1919 in Leytonstone, East London, Daisy grew up in Stratford as one of seven siblings. She began school at the age of four and left at 14 to start work, taking on roles including machinery work, a stint in a soap factory, and managing a bakery and various cafés.

Daisy met her husband, Ray, at an Electric Light Company social when she was 19-years-old. Together, they raised three children, welcomed 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, and enjoyed hobbies such as travelling, dancing, and attending theatre shows.

Throughout her life, Daisy has remained active, enjoying pastimes such as baking, sewing, gardening, and most importantly, staying fit. She attributes her longevity to maintaining an active lifestyle and regularly practices yoga at Manor Lodge.

To help make Daisy’s birthday one to remember, the team threw her a special party, complete with a delicious birthday cake specially made by the home’s talented Head Chef.

Commenting on her big day, Daisy said: “I had a wonderful time and I didn’t want it to end!”

Maggie Ziemianska, Home Manager at Manor Lodge, said: “Here at Manor Lodge, we take pride in celebrating significant milestones with residents, and Daisy’s 105th birthday was no exception.

“It was wonderful to see her enjoying the day surrounded by family, friends, and fellow residents. The team worked hard to make sure it was a celebration to remember as we raised a glass to Daisy.”

Manor Lodge is a modern care home that provides full-time residential, dementia nursing and short-term respite care. Designed to enable its residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema and hair salon, and there is plenty of space both indoors and out for relaxation and recreation.
