Bath care home resident celebrates 100th birthday with a surprise party

A 100-year-old Bath care home resident celebrated their 100th birthday with a surprise birthday party with friends and family.

Llewela Parrish, a resident at Care UK’s Rush Hill Mews, on Clarks Way, marked her 100th birthday on 30th April with a special birthday afternoon. To celebrate the occasion, the team at Rush Hill Mews are transporting Llewela back to the 1950s, with live entertainment including songs from the decade for her to enjoy with her family, friends, and fellow residents.

Ensuring the scene was set for the home’s latest centurion, the team decorated the home’s lounge with birthday banners and balloons – much to Llewela’s surprise.

Llewela was born on April 30th 1923 in Kingsland, Herefordshire. When World War Two broke out, not long after she finished school, Llewela, joined the women’s branch of the British Army, the Auxiliary Territorial Service, aged just 16. Keen to support the British troops, Llewela was quickly promoted to Corporal. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Ken, who worked on military vehicles.

The couple married in August 1950 at St Luke’s Church, in Stoke Prior, Leominster, and had two daughters, Lyn and Claerwen.

Caroline Carter, General Manager at Rush Hill Mews, said: “It was wonderful to listen to Llewela’s achievements from her family and friends and help her celebrate such a momentous birthday.

“Here at Rush Hill Mews, we work hard to support residents to lead fulfilling lives, and celebrating special occasions and birthdays plays a huge part in this. We love any excuse to celebrate the amazing people living here at Rush Hill Mews and Llewela’s birthday was no exception.

“We were honoured to raise a glass to her incredible life so far and are privileged to have her as part of our Rush Hill Mews family – cheers Llewela!”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Rush Hill Mews incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The home has been configured to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
