Have you herd about the special visitors to a Sway care home?

A care home in Sway was joined by some unusual friends for a special afternoon of animal fun.

Residents at Care UK's Sway Place, on Church Lane, gathered to welcome two friendly alpacas called Liquorice and Caramac from Alpaca Adventure. The fluffy pair were given a tour of the home, where they received plenty of fuss and attention.

As part of the animal therapy session, residents learnt about the history and characteristics of alpacas, as well as other interesting facts about the friendly creatures.

Resident Anne Parry said: “It was a wonderful surprise to see the alpacas in the home, it was my first-time meeting alpacas, and it was love at first sight. It reminded me of caring for my own animals when I was younger.”

Laura Blake, Home Admissions Advisor at Sway Place, said: “We are always looking to plan interesting and exciting activities for residents, and as so many have a keen interest in nature and animals, we invited Alpaca Adventure along to provide a fun afternoon with our new four-legged friends.

"Many residents had not seen an alpaca before, and you could see from their reactions just how fascinated they were by the gentle-natured creatures. It proved to be a real success, and the residents all enjoyed having a cuddle with the alpacas, as well as learning about how their fleece can be used to make all sorts of different clothing. We can’t wait for them to pop in for another visit soon!”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Sway Place incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The home provides full-time residential care, dementia care and respite care. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, and 14 independent living cottages, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
