It’s owl good – Cringleford care home makes resident wish come true

A Cringleford care home resident was delighted when her the team made owl her dreams come true.

71-year-old Pearl, from Care UK’s Cavell Court, on Dragonfly Lane, has loved owls since she was a child.

The last time Pearl had been able to see an owl up close was when her son decided to have an owl as the ringbearer at his wedding in 2014, where she was overjoyed to be able to hold the friendly creature.

Knowing how much joy holding the owl brought to Pearl, the lifestyle team at Cavell Court decided to organise for Pearl to have a visit from a very special feathered friend – Hooter the African Spotted Eagle Owl.

Pearl was able to hold Hooter, Scotty and Woody, along with her fellow residents, while also learning more about the species from expert handler Richard, from Norfolk Owls.

Pearl said: “It was such a wonderful day seeing the owls and being able to hold them made me feel very content. That’s the sort of activity I enjoyed in my younger years and it was a lovely surprise for the team to organise it for me to enjoy here.”

Karen Curle, Home Manager at Cavell Court, added: “We always like to go the extra mile for residents here at Cavell Court, which is why we were thrilled to organise this very special surprise for Pearl."

“Animal therapy can be incredibly beneficial for older people, especially those living with dementia, as it can reduce stress, encourage social interaction, and provide an opportunity to relive happy memories and the associated emotions."

Everyone loved meeting Hooter, Scotty and Woody, and to see the smile on Pearl’s face was incredible. I’d like to say a huge thank you to Norfolk Owls for helping us to make Pearl’s wish a reality.
