On Thursday 7th March, at 11am, Priors House will open its doors to the community for a bake sale for the charity initiative, ‘Time for a Cuppa’.
Residents and visitors will be able to relax and enjoy hot drinks, alongside a selection of indulgent treats specially prepared by Priors House chefs, all of which will be available in exchange for a small donation to Dementia UK.
2019 marks the 10th anniversary of ‘Time for a Cuppa’, previously known as ‘A Tea Party to Remember’, an initiative launched by Dementia UK which encourages individuals and organisations across the country to host tea parties in order to raise funds. The initiative has helped funding 30 Admiral Nurses, who provide specialist dementia care and support for 6,000 people living with dementia and their families.
The tea party comes off the back of one of the home’s popular Dementia Awareness events, which it hosted with Worcestershire University, sharing insights on the different types of dementia and how the brain works. Also sharing the discussions on the day, was a dementia support manager from The Alzheimer’s Society, to provide information on the services available to those living with dementia locally and nationally, together with practical strategies for caring for a loved one with the condition.
The Dementia Awareness events are part of the home’s commitment to offering free professional knowledge on the condition, whilst acting as a welcoming community hub for shared experiences and fundraising support.
Home manager at Priors House, Francine Summers, said: “Thousands of people around the UK are living with dementia, and we understand all too well how much this can affect their lives and the lives of their loved ones. Providing specialist dementia care is at the heart of what we do here at Priors House, and we strongly believe that everyone deserves to have access to all the help and support they need.
“Hosting a Time for a Cuppa event provides us with a great opportunity to thank Dementia UK and the Admiral Nurses for the incredible work that they do, so we hope local people will join us on the day to share a cuppa with friends.”
