Wellmeadow Lodge care home invites people in Newton Mearns to celebrate Care Home Open Day

Care UK’s Wellmeadow Lodge care home in Newton Mearns is inviting local people to visit the home on Meadow Way on Saturday 18th June to join in its celebrations for Care Home Open Day.

From 2pm until 4pm, the team at Wellmeadow Lodge will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event. The day is in celebration of Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities. 

Residents and visitors will be able to browse stalls selling jewellery, handmade craft items and bric-a-brac, and they can also try their luck on the tombola.  Refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon; and all those who drop-by can meet the residents and Care UK team at Wellmeadow Lodge and take a tour of the home.

Sharon McGowan, home manager at Wellmeadow Lodge, said: “Care Home Open Day is about connecting people and enriching the lives of residents through building lasting relationships with the local community across the generations.  

“Opening our doors is also a great opportunity to show what life is really like in a modern care home; and we hope to change any preconceptions people might have while also showing everything Wellmeadow Lodge has to offer. 

“We have got a fun day of activities planned and are really looking forward to getting behind Care Home Open Day on Saturday 18th June and welcoming the people of Newton Mearns to be a part of it.” 

Visitors to the Care Home Open Day event at Wellmeadow Lodge will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s Eating as we Age.  The latest in a series of free guides for family carers, Eating as we age is packed with hints and tips for keeping healthy and hydrated in older age.  The guide can also be downloaded free at www.careuk.com/eat
