Welcome to Grangewood

Grangewood is a purpose-built care home in the village of Shiney Row in Houghton-le-Spring, Tyne & Wear. Our bright and welcoming care home provides quality residential care for older people, including those living with dementia.

All of the bedrooms at Grangewood have en-suite facilities and are stylishly furnished. Each has a 24-hour nurse call system and telephone, internet and television connections. Your loved one is welcome to bring their own treasured possessions and items of furniture to help them to feel more at home.

Our home has a strong community atmosphere. Most residents have lived locally all their lives - as have many of our colleagues. Often, when a new resident moves in, they're instantly among old friends and familiar faces.

We pride ourselves on the transparency of our care quality and fee information - ensuring you can trust us to care from that very first step.

Join us for the last Friday of every month, 2pm - 4pm for a dance! Listen, dance and reminiscence to many songs over the decades, sparking those magical memories.

We support your loved one to maintain their independence by taking part in group and one-to-one activities, outings and entertainment in the home. They’re also welcome to do small tasks around Grangewood if it brings them a sense of purpose. Every day can be exactly what they’d like it to be.

One of my favourite parts of the day is chatting to residents and listening to their life stories. There’s so much we can learn from the older generation.

The staff get my loved one involved in some of the activities provided and they know how to reassure her when she is stressed… they know exactly how to calm her down. They truly care about the residents and keep them motivated… my loved one has come on a lot since moving into the home. As a family, we are always invited to get involved with special events in the home and we're always kept informed about how she is doing.

The chefs are amazing… lots of top quality food, plenty of variety to suit all tastes… all freshly cooked each day, and lovely home-baked cakes… they are well fed, that's for sure. I wouldn't mind moving in myself.

The staff treat all of the residents with dignity and there is always something going on in terms of entertainment for them, no matter what level of care they need. They talk with them, get to know their needs and treat them as individuals.

Staff are professional, caring and very helpful. Anything we need they'll bend over backwards to hep us. Mum is happy, space is main priority and couldn't ask for anymore from the staff. They care for the residents and their families as well.

They listen to their needs and respond to how mums feeling that day e.g. if she doesn't want to take part in activities. Whatever she wants they'll catch her another time and just respond to what mum needs.
